Visualising keyword data: What does MarketQuarter do?

This post is the third in the series on finding and visualising data insights for my experimental shop MarketQuarter: a French food store offering comte, raclette, tomme and other French cheese from London’s Borough Market.

Yesterday was all about finding competitors through keyword research and I ended the day satisfied that SEMrush and SpyFu were both useful in helping me mine keyword data from competitors.

As part of yesterday’s task I combined analytics data from MarketQuarter with the predicted keywords from both tools. This morning I thought I would try and find some ways of visualising this data as visualisations are a big part of what I am hoping to achieve from this project.

I have used two tag cloud generators: Wordle(above) and TagCrowd(below) using the set of keywords generated from yesterday’s research.

Both diagrams provide an instant picture of what type of business MarketQuarter is. They could also provide an excellent starting point for discussing how the business sees itself and how changes in its online marketing could affect this picture.

If I had to choose then Wordle has the edge in allowing so many visual styles to be applied to your tag cloud. Both however provide just the sorts of visual pictures of data I am looking for.

I would love to hear from others who have performed similar analysis on their own shops or from anyone with questions. Add your comments below or follow @JonathanBriggs on Twitter
