Hosting, Fantastico and hundreds of possibilities (Toolbox Session 3)

URGENT: Please note that there is no face-to-face lecture this week as I am running a workshop in New York.

I have recorded this lecture to replace the normal session.

This session will explore the new hosting environments that IT Toolbox students have signed up for as part of the last activity.

I will show how easy it is to find your way around cPanel, install WordPress and other software through Fantastico and upload files so that you can begin to explore web publishing.

I also use this session to answer some of the questions that you raised during the web hosting activity.

Jonathan replies: For hosted video you could use Vimeo just like I do. For live you are going to have to find a solution that captures on a local machine, uploads to your host and streams from there - some research to do.

Does it need to be live?

Yes it needs to be. I’m going to designing a web site for some one along side mine but they would need to stream there program live they have sling box which allow you to broadcast your self on the web. However I don’t know if that is the way or not.

Jonathan replies: It should be fine as long as you remember that sometimes you may need to delete one application to try another. The software you are using is not very big.

Jonathan replies: Don't worry - I knew things might take some time which is why we have done quite a lot quite quickly. I will be lenient on deadlines. Get things completed as quickly as you can once your hosting comes through.

600host people are very lazy in my case, if you paid via google or paypal, just go onto there main homepage and click on live chat and tell them to set you up. That is the only way they will or they will go through a long wait....i brought from 600host and my server and domain was up in less than 12 hours after i talked to that person!...(not only just me, alot of other people who purchased from 600host took this advice).

Jonathan replies: yourdomainname.com/cpanel should do it - if not read any documentation on their site or email them.
