Thanks to all of you who filled in the first survey. This will help me keep in contact with you and helps me understand what you are interested in and what you know. I though you would be interested in some of the results so far. If you have not completed the survey then please do so by following the link in email I sent to your Kinsgton email.
Results
- 69% of you are registered for Mobile Business and 28% for Mobile Technology.
- 54% of you have T-mobile phones (17% O2, 11% Orange, 10% Vodafone, 4% 3)
- 75% of you are on monthly contracts (25% on pay as you go)
- You spend an average of £36 pounds a month on your phones
- 47% of you have a Nokia phone (24% Sony Ericsson)
- 80% of you have a camera phone and 8% have phones that support two-way video
- 81% of you make calls every day or more and the same number use text
- 75% send MMS less than once a month with 47% saying never but 44% say they use the built in camera every day
- 17% of you use your operator’s mobile content (O2 Active, Live!, Orange World) at least once a week
Desired features
The most desired features of future phones were high quality cameras, access to any website, using your phone to prove your identity and video conferencing.
The least desired features were using your phone to prove your identity, networked multiplayer games, ability to locate another phone and ability to access any website.
Other desired features included good quality email, much longer battery life, integration with GPS (satellite positioning), cheaper calls, live TV, bigger storage, water resistant, banking applications, faster browsing, better sound and live TV.
Agree or disagree
43% of you agreed (or strongly agreed) that you try and have the latest phones
45% switch their phone off when they don’t want to be contacted
45% prefer to call instead of text
54% want to be able to watch video clips on their phones
55% were worried by the potential health effects of their phones
70% believe that their mobile has improved their social lives
45% think they spend too much on using their phone
Topics to cover
There was a request for the following topics to be covered in the module: programming Java games, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, operating systems for phones, uses in business, market trends, health issues and m-commerce
