As described in the module guide this module is examined using a Case Study that you must develop before the exam. You will create a report and take that with you into the exam.

We have not yet covered all of technologies (such as RFID or WAP2.0) but you should still start planning what you will do.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY

Choose ONE of the following types of client

a. An educational institution
b. A borough council
c. A UK high street retailer
d. The makers of a UK TV programme
e. A UK charity

And ONE of the following types of applications

i. A WAP 2.0 extension to an existing online site
ii. An alerting system that uses SMS or MMS
iii. A location based service delivered over a mobile phone
iv. Secure remote mobile access to an existing information system
v. An RFID enabled information system

Create a proposal document (maximum 10 pages including diagrams) for the chosen client above (a.-e.) that addresses the chosen application (i.-v.).

Your report should address the following topics:

1. Identify the actual named client that you would create the system for and provide sufficient background information about their business and their “customers”
2. Describe clearly the main functions of your proposed system (restrict this to no more than 3 main features)
3. Describe the benefits of the proposed system (to the organisation or to its users/customers)
4. Review similar projects within the same industry and the use of mobile technologies in your chosen field
5. Select technologies to recommend to your client and justify your answers
6. Consider partners and other technology components that will be needed to create your proposed system
7. Estimate the construction and running costs for your system. This does not need to be accurate but must give a sense of the costs involved.
8. Describe the revenue or savings that might be derived from your proposal
9. Consider any security, privacy or ethical issues arising from your system

Your proposal should make use of existing technology that is commercially available.

You will take this document into the examination and the contents will provide material for answering the long answer questions.

You may work together with a maximum of 3 other people in the preparation of this case study or you may choose to work alone.

Please ask any questions about these requirements here.
