A busy summer of e-commerce

I am working through the rest of the summer after a short holiday in Switzerland. Most of the time will be spent on e-commerce and “membership” projects and preparation for the coming teaching year.

At the beginning of July my company, the OTHER media launched Food Parcels; a site in collaboration with Bedales of London's Borough Market that offers food and wine gift hampers.

We've used the site to experiment with a number of new technology ideas and to bring together good practices we have used on our other ecommerce sites for clients such as Paul Smith, Virgin Experience Days and the England and Wales Cricket Board. We hope that the site will allow us to propose “best of breed” sites for future clients.

These features include:

  1. Streamlining the ordering process to remove the registration process that is so common in ecommerce.
  2. Allowing nonshoppers to rate and comment on potential purchases
  3. Adding blogging to our ecommerce sites
  4. Offer a faceted search
  5. Explore contextual selling recommendations
  6. Maintaining regular contact with customers through newsletters
  7. Maximising customer reassurance through contextual messages
  8. Using landing pages for specific promotions to assist search engine optimisations

We also hope to sell some great food and wine gifts!
