Week 7: Build a mobile site activity

In this week’s activity I want you to build a simple mobile site for a client of your choice.

As I showed in last week’s lecture, this can be achieved using MobiSiteGalore although if you are braver you will try and learn enough xHTML and CSS to create something that is uniquely yours.

If you use the MobiSiteGalore tools you can host your site using WebSiteForever (for free). If you take the harder track (which will look better on your CV) then you will need to find a cheap or free host or use some university webspace to host the site you produce.

Whichever approach you use you need to think about the design, the navigation, the content and the purpose of the site.

Make sure that you have tested your site using an emulator such as the the .mobile emulator I showed last week.

Here are the questions I would like you to think about as you experiment with building your site. I recommend that you use your case study client as the target for your experiment although you can of course choose any organisation you like.

1. Which organisation have you chosen?
2. What is the purpose of your mobile site?
3. Are you taking the easy mobisitegalore route or the more challenging “xHTML/CSS” route?
4. What is the URL of your final prototype?
5. What did you learn about mobile sites as you built this prototype?
6. What were the limitations of the tools you used?
7. What questions were raised by the activity?

I would expect this activity to take at least an hour (longer if you take the harder option – but oh so much more rewarding).

Deadline is Thursday midnight (as usual)

Here is a link to feedback brief results of your activity.

I am still working on the site.

Can you advise on the following?
"Here is a link to feedback brief results of your activity."
Are you referring to the activity we did last week? ie case study? The above link takes you to this week's activity questions.
"Build a mobile web site"

Jonathan replies: That link is to THIS week's activity (as usual). Call me if you are confused.
