Books about ecommerce development using LAMP

I spent the weekend reviewing books about the development of electronic commerce using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP). There is a reasonable choice and I picked out the books that I would find most useful.

Of course there is a similar number of books about using Microsoft ASP and .NET technologies but as the examples I will be working with are in PHP I thought I would start with these.

PHP is not a difficult scripting language to learn and MySQL is straightforward. Learning all of LAMP will, however, require at least a weekend of dedication. It will be worth it, whether you intend to be a developer or if you want to impress as a consultant or project manager.

Creating Interactive Web Sites with Php and Web Services Creating Interactive Web Sites with Php and Web Services, Eric Rosebrock, 2003
This was my favorite. It did not talk down to the audience but it is perhaps more appropriate if you have already got some programming experience.

Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL Build Your Own Database Driven Website Using PHP & MySQL, Kevin Yank, 2003
Many of you are planning to do projects that rely on a web enabled database. This will tell you enough to get things working.

Setting Up LAMP Getting Linux Apache MySQL and PHP Working Together Setting Up LAMP: Getting Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP Working Together, Eric Rosebrock, Eric Filson, 2004
Getting Open Source components working together on your own PC is your first big challenge. This book will help.

Beginning PHP Apache MySQL Web Development Beginning PHP, Apache, MySQL Web Development, Michael K. Glass, 2004
This seems worth a look too.

Apache Mysql and Php Weekend Crash Course Apache, Mysql, and PHP Weekend Crash Course, Steven Schafer, 2003
If you are one of those people who can follow a recipe then this book is worth considering. It sets out a series of 30 steps and takes you through all the essentials.

Php and Mysql for DummiesPhp and Mysql for Dummies, Janet Valade, 2004
Academics are often sniffy about Dummies guides but I have found them very useful for a quick start or a quick bluffer's guide. This is a recent addition to the series and is a cheap and cheerful starting point.

If any of you are interested in using LAMP @ home and you don't want to or don't know how to configure your own webserver then goto http://lamppix.tinowagner.com. You find a live CD bootable version of LAMP. This is great for testing websites and for giving your site to people without the fuss of posting pages to the net.

For testing and project work its a lot easier using Windows then Linux if you dont know Linux.
Also works with Apache version 2 and PHP5.
