Last year's ecommerce module (2007)

As I am preparing this year's teaching for Kingston University I thought it would be worth compiling last year's course into a single document that could be reviewed and printed.

I have included a full set of the slides used in the lectures as well as a version of the module guide.

This year's course will follow a broadly similar pattern and this is therefore a rough guide to what we will be covering and the kinds of activities I am getting the students to do.

This document is made available to other teachers and students to use under a Creative Commons Licence.

Jonathan replies: I will put the new registration form live this week. Please don't use the old one. The course starts on the 2nd October. Once the new module is there (on Blackboard) then it will be in your calendar.

Looks like a good module with a sensible mix of business and hands-on work... but a little scary that some students didn't even get osCommerce to run!

Now that the technical aspects of eCommerce are largely resolved, I believe the focus is moving to marketing and particularly a quasi-scientific approach to conversion. Concepts such as user experience, multivariate testing, analytics, and ROI are now at the forefront of many retailers minds.
